Spin the Wheel

Put names or options on a wheel and spin it to pick one at random: for a classroom, a giveaway, a team, or deciding what to eat. Remove each winner as you go, and share the wheel as a link.

Spin the Wheel: The page draws the winner with the browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every entry has exactly the same chance, and then turns the wheel so the pointer stops on it. Turn on weights to give an entry a bigger slice and, in exact proportion, a bigger chance, and click a slice's colour to change it. It ticks as each slice passes, and keeps the wheel in this browser for next time. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Why the spin cannot be steered

Wheels that let physics decide can favour some slices: a spin that always starts from the same angle with the same force tends to end in the same place. This wheel picks the winner first, with the browser's cryptographic random number generator, and only then animates the turn so that the pointer stops on it.

The pick uses rejection sampling: random numbers that would give some entries a tiny extra chance are thrown away and drawn again, so with seven entries each has exactly one chance in seven. For a single random choice without the show, the random list picker and coin flipper use the same generator.

Running a fair draw in a group

For a classroom or a giveaway, show the wheel on a shared screen in full screen so everyone sees the entries before the spin. Remove each winner before the next spin when nobody should win twice, and keep the earlier picks listed under the wheel as a record.

Copy link puts the entries in the address, so a colleague can open the same wheel. To put a list in a random order instead of picking one entry, use the list shuffler; for games, the dice roller rolls any number of dice.

    How to use it

    1. Start from a ready-made wheel, or add your own entries one at a time or as a pasted list.
    2. Press Spin or click the wheel.
    3. Read the winner, then spin again or remove it from the wheel for the next draw.

    Privacy & limitations

Everything runs in your browser. Your entries are kept in this browser only; a shared link carries them in its address.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the wheel really random?

Yes. The winner is picked before the wheel moves, with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographic random number generator, and a method that gives every entry exactly the same chance. The spin only shows the result; where you click or how long it spins makes no difference.

How many entries can a wheel have?

Up to 100, each up to 60 characters. Long names are shortened on the wheel itself but shown in full as the winner. With many entries the slices get thin, so a list picker can be easier to read.

Can I pick several winners without repeats?

Yes. After each spin press Remove it from the wheel, then spin again; the removed entry cannot come up again. To start over, choose the ready-made wheel again or paste your list back in.

How do I share or save a wheel?

The wheel is saved in this browser automatically. Copy link makes an address with the entries in it, so anyone who opens it gets the same wheel, for example on a classroom screen.

Can some entries have a bigger chance?

Yes. Tick Weights and give each entry a number from 1 to 100: an entry with weight 3 gets a slice three times as wide as one with weight 1, and exactly three times the chance. The list shows each entry's chance as a percentage, and a shared link keeps the weights.
