Rotate Video

Turn a sideways or upside-down video the right way up, 90 or 180 degrees, without uploading it.

Rotate Video: TOEA plays the clip and records it into a canvas whose sides are swapped for a quarter turn, drawing every frame rotated about its centre, so a 1080 × 1920 phone clip becomes a proper 1920 × 1080 file rather than one that only looks rotated. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Judge by the preview here

Choose the turn by how the clip looks in this tool's preview, not in the app where it looked wrong. The browser applies a phone's rotation flag when it plays the file, so a clip that is sideways in one editor may already look upright here, and the size readout shows the dimensions the output will have before you start.

Once the result is the right way up, resize video can refit it to a 9:16, 1:1, or 4:5 frame for a particular platform.

Mirrored is a different problem

Footage from a front camera or a webcam is sometimes saved mirrored, with text reading backwards. Rotating cannot fix that: turning 180 degrees makes the picture upside down as well as reversed. A mirrored clip needs a horizontal flip in a video editor. Check for writing, a logo, or a watch on the wrong wrist to tell a mirrored clip from one that only needs turning.

How to use it

  1. Choose a video file.
  2. Pick 90° clockwise, 90° anticlockwise, or 180°.
  3. Rotate and download the result.

Privacy & limitations

The video is read straight from your device and never uploaded. Everything — decoding, resizing, and encoding — happens in this browser tab, so large files are limited by your own memory rather than an upload queue. Encoding runs at playback speed because the browser records the video as it plays, so a two-minute clip takes about two minutes and the tab must stay in front.

Frequently asked questions

My phone video plays sideways on the computer. Why?

Phones often store the frames as recorded and add a rotation flag that some players and editors ignore. This tool rewrites the frames themselves, so the result is upright everywhere.

Which way is clockwise?

Clockwise turns the top edge to the right. If the video is lying on its left side, with the top of the picture on the left, clockwise brings it up.

Is the audio kept?

Yes, unchanged.

Does the picture lose quality?

The clip is re-encoded at the top quality preset, so the loss is small, but it is a re-encode. Rotating twice is worse than rotating once by 180°.
