Reverse Video Online: Play Any Clip Backwards

Reverse a video so it plays backwards, with the sound reversed too if you like: choose up to 60 seconds of the clip, and save the result as a new video with nothing uploaded.

Reverse Video Online: Play Any Clip Backwards: Browsers cannot play video backwards, so the clip is played once to capture up to 30 frames a second as still images, then those frames are drawn in the opposite order into a new video, while the soundtrack is decoded and its samples played back to front alongside. Frames are kept in memory, which is why each run is limited to a minute; the output is at most 720 pixels tall. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Reversed sound

Reversed speech cannot be understood, and notes swell in instead of fading out. Untick the option to save the reversed picture without sound.

How to use it

  2. Set the start and end of the part to reverse, up to 60 seconds.
  3. Reverse the video and download it.

Frequently asked questions

Why only 60 seconds?

Every frame of the span is held in memory while the reversed clip is written, and a minute at 720p is already a few hundred megabytes. Reverse a longer video in parts.

Why is my reversed clip silent?

Some browsers cannot decode the sound in some video files on their own; the picture is still reversed. Reversing an audio file instead may work with the reverse audio tool.

How long does it take?

About twice the length of the span: once to read the frames and once to write them backwards.
