Video Speed Changer

Speed a video up to 4× or slow it down to a quarter speed, audio included, in your browser.

Video Speed Changer: Choose 0.5× for half-speed playback, 1.5× for a quicker walkthrough, or 2× to halve the runtime. TOEA records the picture and sound at the chosen speed and downloads an MP4 when your browser can record it, or a WebM otherwise. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Common speeds and runtime

At 0.5×, a one-minute clip becomes two minutes. At 1.5× it becomes 40 seconds, and at 2× it becomes 30 seconds. For any target length, divide the original runtime by the target runtime to choose a speed.

Use 0.5× to inspect movement, 1.5× to shorten a walkthrough, and 2× for actions that need less viewing time. Slowing holds the original frames longer; it does not create new frames, so low-frame-rate footage may look choppy.

Sound, captions and export

The browser normally preserves audio pitch during speed changes. There is no pitch control in this tool, and audio may be silent below 0.5×. Listen to the finished clip before sharing it.

The download is MP4 when the browser can record MP4, or WebM otherwise. Separate subtitle timestamps need dividing by the speed multiplier to stay in sync. Subtitles already burned into the picture follow the changed speed, but may become too quick to read.

How to use it

  1. Choose a video file.
  2. Pick a speed from 0.25× to 4×.
  3. Encode and download the result.

Privacy & limitations

The video is read straight from your device and never uploaded. Everything — decoding, resizing, and encoding — happens in this browser tab, so large files are limited by your own memory rather than an upload queue. Encoding takes as long as the new runtime, since the browser records the clip as it plays.

Frequently asked questions

Which speed should I choose?

0.5× doubles the runtime and can help show a movement. 1.5× turns a 90-second clip into 60 seconds. 2× halves the runtime. The available presets run from 0.25× to 4×; slowing does not create extra frames.

Does the audio change pitch?

The tool uses the browser's normal playback behaviour, which generally preserves pitch as speed changes. There is no pitch switch here. At very slow rates the browser may mute the audio; the tool warns below 0.5×.

What format is the download?

MP4 when your browser supports MP4 recording, otherwise WebM. The file extension shows which was used. The video is re-encoded, and recording takes about as long as the new runtime, so keep the tab in front.
