Resize PDF Pages (A4, Letter, and More)

Change the page size of a PDF, such as A4 to Letter or Letter to A4, scaling each page to fit without stretching, with an optional white margin.

Resize PDF Pages (A4, Letter, and More): Each page is placed on a new page of the chosen size, scaled by the same factor horizontally and vertically so it fits, and centred, so nothing is stretched or cut off; landscape pages get a landscape page. Pages are copied as vector graphics, so text and lines stay sharp. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Nothing is uploaded

Each page is scaled to fit the new size without stretching and centred, so A4 pages on Letter paper keep their proportions with a thin band of white. Landscape pages stay landscape. Text and drawings stay vector, so nothing gets blurry. Nothing is uploaded.

A4 and Letter

A4 is 210 × 297 mm and US Letter 215.9 × 279.4 mm. An A4 page fitted onto Letter is scaled to 94.1% to fit the shorter height, leaving bands of about 9 mm at the sides; a Letter page on A4 is scaled to 97.2%, leaving bands of about 13 mm at the top and bottom.

To trim margins instead, use crop PDF; to print several pages per sheet, PDF n-up.

Printing instead of resizing

For a one-off print, the print dialog's Fit to page option does the same scaling. Resizing the file is better when it will be printed many times, sent to a print shop, or uploaded to a site that requires a particular size.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Pick the new page size, or enter one in millimetres, and a margin if you want one.
  3. Download the resized PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there white at the edges?

A4 is narrower and taller than Letter, so a page converted between them can fill one direction exactly and leaves a thin band in the other.

Does it make the file smaller?

Not much: the content is the same, only the page frame changes. To shrink a file, use the compress PDF tool.

Can I make every page the same size?

Yes: pages of mixed sizes all come out on the chosen paper, each scaled to fit.
