Crop PDF

Remove white margins from PDF pages automatically, or crop every page by margins you set, for all pages or a selection, without uploading the file.

Crop PDF: Automatic cropping renders each page, finds the area that contains anything darker than near-white, and keeps that plus the space you choose around it. Cropping sets the page's crop box, the area viewers and printers show, so text stays sharp and nothing is re-encoded. Margins apply to the page as you see it, including pages stored sideways. On test pages in all four rotations, the result matched the original cut by the same margins, pixel for pixel. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Nothing is uploaded

Cropping sets each page's crop box, which viewers and printers use; the content outside it stays in the file, hidden, so it is not a way to remove confidential information. Rotated pages are handled as you see them.

Crop box and media box

A PDF page has a media box, the full sheet, and an optional crop box, the part to show. Cropping here sets the crop box only, so the original page can be recovered by resetting it in a PDF editor, and text and images keep their full quality.

To make the file smaller afterwards, use compress PDF; to turn pages first, rotate PDF.

Reading on small screens

Cropping the white margins of an academic paper or a scanned book before reading it on a phone or e-reader makes the text noticeably larger when the page is fitted to the screen.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Remove the white margins automatically, or set the margin to cut from each side in millimetres.
  3. Choose the pages, and download the cropped PDF.

Privacy & limitations

The PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is the cut-off part deleted?

No: it stays in the file, hidden outside the crop box, and some editors can show it again. Do not use cropping to remove confidential information; redact or remove those pages instead.

Why crop margins?

Wide margins waste screen space on phones and e-readers, and on printouts of slides or scanned books; cropping makes the content bigger when it is fitted to the screen.

Why is the automatic crop not tight on some pages?

A page number, header, or faint scan noise counts as content; set the margins by hand, or crop those pages separately.
