PDF to Excel: Convert Locally in Your Browser

Extract simple aligned PDF tables to XLSX or CSV. Preview the grid and choose one sheet per table or per page before saving.

PDF to Excel: Convert Locally in Your Browser: Groups text by baseline and clusters aligned column positions to find simple tables with two or more rows and columns. Save all detected tables as an XLSX workbook, grouped by page or table; CSV saves only the selected grid. Long prose cells, merged or complex tables, empty cells, rotated text and irregular columns can be missed or misread. This does not recognise scanned text or retain formulas, styles or cell merges. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Simple tables are inferred from aligned text. Complex or merged tables, rotated text and scanned pages need checking. Empty cells and column boundaries can be misread. CSV downloads only the selected sheet.

Document formats

Office Open XML defines DOCX and XLSX packaging, relationships, text and worksheets. The ECMA-376 catalogue (https://ecma-international.org/publications-and-standards/standards/ecma-376/) describes the format family. PDF page content is specified by ISO 32000; the ISO catalogue (https://www.iso.org/standard/75839.html) identifies the standard. These conversions rebuild useful content rather than guaranteeing an identical layout.

Conversion libraries

PDF creation uses pdf-lib (MIT; https://pdf-lib.js.org/docs/api/), and PDF reading and rendering use PDF.js (Apache 2.0; https://mozilla.github.io/pdf.js/). Both run locally in this tool. No document upload is required.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF with a text layer.
  2. Choose grouping and inspect each detected grid for misplaced or missing cells.
  3. Convert to XLSX, or export the selected sheet as CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Why are no tables found?

The page may be a scan or may lack repeated aligned column positions. PDF OCR can help with scans. A complex layout may require manual transcription.

Are merged cells or formulas recovered?

No. PDF pages contain positioned text rather than workbook formulas or reliable cell structures. Complex or merged tables need checking and correction.

Does CSV contain all the tables?

CSV contains the selected sheet only. XLSX contains every detected table, grouped by your chosen page or table option. Check the preview before downloading.
