Nether Portal Coordinates Calculator (Minecraft)

Convert Overworld X and Z coordinates to the Nether by dividing by 8, or Nether coordinates back to the Overworld, to place linked portals and travel eight times faster, with the distance from the world's centre.

Nether Portal Coordinates Calculator (Minecraft): Horizontal distances in the Nether are an eighth of those in the Overworld, so X and Z are divided by 8, rounding down, and multiplied by 8 the other way; Y is unchanged. Overworld 800, 70, −340 is Nether 100, 70, −43, and Nether 100, −43 is Overworld 800, −344. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Nether X, Y, Z100, 70, -43
Distance from 0, 0109 blocks869 blocks in the other dimension

One block travelled in the Nether equals eight in the Overworld, horizontally, so X and Z are divided by 8 going into the Nether and multiplied by 8 coming back; Y, the height, does not scale. Build the linked portal at the converted spot: the game looks for an existing portal within a short distance and makes a new one if it finds none, so portals built close together can link to the wrong one.

Travel

Because one block in the Nether is eight in the Overworld, a 1,000-block trip takes only 125 blocks through the Nether, which is why players build Nether highways between bases.

Name

Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang; this independent calculator only does the arithmetic.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my portals link to the wrong place?

When you go through a portal, the game links to an existing portal within a search range of the converted spot, so portals built too close together can share a destination. Build the second portal at the exact converted coordinates.

Does the height matter?

Height does not scale, but the Nether's usable height is lower; the game picks a safe spot near your Y if needed.

Where do I find my coordinates?

On Java Edition press F3; on Bedrock Edition turn on show coordinates in the world settings.
