Lunar birthdays and festivals fall on a different Gregorian date every year. When the month has only 29 days in a given year, a birthday on the 30th is kept on the 29th, and a birthday in a leap month falls in the ordinary month of the same number in years without that leap month. Covers 1900 to 2100.
Recent New Years and leap months
Chinese New Year fell on 29 January 2025 and falls on 17 February 2026, 6 February 2027, and 26 January 2028. 2025 had a leap sixth month, which began on 25 July 2025.

Why tables beat a formula
A lunar month starts on the day of the new moon in Beijing time, so a new moon just before or after midnight decides which day a month begins. That is why 1933, 1954, and 1978 differ between published calendars, and why browsers' built-in Chinese calendar gets 2027 wrong; this converter follows the Hong Kong Observatory.

Why does my lunar birthday move every year?
A lunar year has 12 or 13 months of 29 or 30 days, so its days fall on a different Gregorian date each year.
What is a leap month?
About every three years a month is repeated to keep the lunar calendar in step with the seasons; 2025 had a second sixth month (闰六月).
When is the next Chinese New Year?
On 17 February 2026 and 6 February 2027. Some software, including browsers' built-in Chinese calendar, puts the 2027 New Year a day late, on 7 February.
