Calendar Converter
Convert a date between the Gregorian calendar and the Chinese lunar, Islamic, Hebrew, Persian, Japanese era, Thai Buddhist, Indian, and Ethiopian calendars, and find a lunar birthday in any year.
Calendar Converter: The Islamic (Umm al-Qura), Hebrew, Persian, Japanese, Buddhist, Indian, and Ethiopian dates come from the calendars built into your browser. The Chinese lunar date is calculated from the new moons and principal solar terms in Beijing time, with leap months, because the browser's own Chinese calendar gets some years wrong. Find a Chinese lunar birthday in the Gregorian calendar
Islamic, Hebrew, Persian, Japanese, Buddhist, Indian, and Ethiopian dates come from your browser's calendars. Chinese dates are calculated from the new moons and solar terms in Beijing time. Islamic months may begin a day earlier or later where they follow the sighting of the moon, and Jewish and Islamic days begin at sunset.
How each calendar counts
The Islamic calendar is purely lunar: twelve months of 29 or 30 days make a year about eleven days shorter than the solar year, so its dates move through the seasons. The Hebrew and Chinese calendars are lunisolar, adding a leap month seven times in nineteen years to keep festivals in their seasons. The Persian calendar is solar and starts each year at the March equinox. The Japanese calendar uses Gregorian months and days but counts years by imperial era.
The Chinese calendar here is calculated rather than taken from the browser: months start on the day of the new moon in Beijing, and the leap month is the first month of a thirteen-month year without a principal solar term, following China's standard GB/T 33661-2017.
Lunar birthdays
Many families in China, Korea, and Vietnam celebrate birthdays by the lunar date, which falls on a different Gregorian day each year. Pick the lunar month and day to see this year's and the next two years' dates. A birthday on the 30th has no date in years when that month has only 29 days, and families then usually celebrate on the 29th; a birthday in a leap month is usually kept in the ordinary month of the same number when there is no leap month.
For the zodiac animal of a birth date, use the Chinese zodiac calculator.
How to use it

Frequently asked questions
When is my lunar birthday this year?
Choose the lunar month and day you were born on, and the page gives the Gregorian date for this year and the next two. If you were born in a leap month, tick Leap month; leap months come only in some years, so many families celebrate in the ordinary month of the same number instead.
Why does the Islamic date sometimes differ by a day?
The page uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, which Saudi Arabia calculates in advance. In many countries each month begins when the new crescent is sighted, which can be a day later. Islamic and Jewish days also begin at sunset, not midnight.
What is the Japanese era year?
Japan numbers years by the era of the emperor: Reiwa began on 1 May 2019, so 2026 is Reiwa 8. Forms in Japan often ask for the era year.
What is the Julian day number?
A continuous count of days used in astronomy, starting from 1 January 4713 BC in the Julian calendar. It makes the number of days between two dates a simple subtraction.
