How much smaller WebP is
At the same visual quality, a WebP photo is typically a quarter to a third smaller than a JPG. On a page with many images that adds up to a noticeably faster load, especially on phones. The saving is largest on photographs straight from a camera and smallest on JPGs that were already squeezed hard.
Where WebP still does not work
Every current browser shows WebP, but some email clients, older desktop software, print services, and upload forms do not accept it. Keep the JPG for those. On a website you can serve both: a <picture> element with a WebP <source> and the JPG in its <img> gives each browser the best file it understands.
To go the other way, WebP to JPG makes a JPG from any WebP.
How to use it
- Choose a JPG image.
- Set the WebP quality.
- Convert, compare, and download.
Privacy & limitations
Conversion is entirely local. The result does not preserve the original JPG metadata, and encoder output can vary slightly between browsers.
