Codes with an alpha channel
Four- and eight-digit codes carry transparency in the last digits: #63C42D80 is the color at about 50% opacity, since 80 in hexadecimal is 128 out of 255. In CSS the same color is rgb(99 196 45 / 0.5). Watch the order when a code comes from Android: its color values put alpha first, as #AARRGGBB, so #8063C42D there is the same color, and reading it as CSS would give an entirely different one.
Using the channel values
Current CSS accepts rgb(99 196 45) with spaces as well as the older comma form, and rgba() is now just another name for rgb(). Storing only the three numbers in a custom property, as --brand: 99 196 45, lets one color be reused at any opacity with rgb(var(--brand) / 0.2). Many graphics and app frameworks expect each channel from 0 to 1 instead of 0 to 255; divide by 255, so 196 becomes about 0.769.
