Flying Star Chart: Period and Facing Mountain
Build the traditional Lo Shu chart for periods 1–9 and the 24 mountains. Inspect the three star layers, flight directions and named formations without predictions.
Flying Star Chart: Period and Facing Mountain: Flies the base star forwards along the Lo Shu path, takes the mountain and facing seeds from the sitting and facing base palaces, and applies the corresponding mountain group's polarity. Named formations are labels only. This is a cultural reference without predictions or lucky/unlucky verdicts. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

A cultural reference to traditional charts; no predictions, advice or lucky/unlucky verdicts.
Period 9 is 2024-02-04 up to, but not including, 2044-02-04. A year alone selects the period after 4 February; use a date for January or early February. Select the period appropriate to your chosen construction or move-in convention.
Period 9. Sitting: 午 (wǔ); facing: 子 (zǐ).
元龍 yuán lóng · Mountain group: 天元 tiān yuán · Heaven.
洛書 luò shū · South at the top, east at the left. Each palace lists mountain / facing, then base.
| Layer | Centre | Flight |
|---|---|---|
| 運星 yùn xīng · Base | 9 | 順飛 shùn fēi · Forward |
| 山星 shān xīng · Mountain | 4 | 陽 yáng · Forward |
| 向星 xiàng xīng · Facing | 5 | 陰 yīn · Reverse |
Formation labels only: 雙星到向 shuāng xīng dào xiàng · Both period stars at facing
Centre 5 borrows the period star’s trigram and the same Earth, Heaven or Human mountain position to determine its flight.
This is a regular 下卦 xià guà chart. Replacement charts (替卦 tì guà) are not included in v1. Bearing sectors include their lower edge and exclude their upper edge; a boundary measurement should be checked. No magnetic declination correction is applied.
Method and sources
Flight path: centre → northwest → west → northeast → south → north → southwest → east → southeast. Mountain and facing seeds come from the base chart’s sitting and facing palaces. Polarity comes from the same mountain position in each seed star’s home trigram. Centre 5 borrows the construction period’s pattern, following the American Feng Shui Institute, pages 8–9.

Flight and centre 5
The Lo Shu flight path is centre, northwest, west, northeast, south, north, southwest, east, southeast. The American Feng Shui Institute's 2005 course notes, printed pages 8–9, describe centre 5 borrowing the construction number's polarity pattern: https://www.amfengshui.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/fs340.pdf . Forward flight increments and reverse flight decrements, wrapping between 1 and 9.
Published charts and mountain table
Palace-by-palace fixtures are transcribed from Joey Yap's Real Feng Shui, printed page 13, Period 8 charts: https://www.joeyyap.com/notes/rfs/Real_Feng_Shui.pdf . The 24-mountain reference is also published in BaziChic June 2014, pages 76–77: https://www.bazichic.com/uploads/documents/bazichik20191227073316.pdf . Frequently asked questions
When does Period 9 begin?
The date convention used here is 2024-02-04, with Period 9 ending before 2044-02-04. A year input assumes the period after 4 February. Use the date option for earlier dates in a transition year.
How does centre 5 get its flight direction?
Five has no home trigram. It borrows the construction period star's trigram and uses the same Earth, Heaven or Human mountain position. This follows the American Feng Shui Institute's published rule. In Period 5, no outer base palace contains 5.
Are replacement charts included?
No. Version 1 supports regular charts only; replacement charts, also called ti gua, are excluded. It does not automatically select a replacement chart for an off-centre bearing.
How is the grid oriented?
South is at the top and east at the left. Each cell shows mountain / facing above the base star. Facing and sitting palaces are labelled. Bearing sectors include their lower edge and exclude the upper edge; no magnetic declination adjustment is applied.
