Feng Shui Compass: 24 Mountains and Trigrams
Explore the traditional luopan direction system with a rotating dial, two trigram arrangements and opposite sitting and facing readings.
Feng Shui Compass: 24 Mountains and Trigrams: The compass reads your phone's heading and can correct it to true north using the World Magnetic Model. The dial divides the circle into the 24 Mountains of 15 degrees each and shows both the facing and sitting direction; readings within 1.5 degrees of a boundary are flagged, because a small error would change the Mountain. Mountains and trigram arrangements
The 24 Mountains are 15-degree direction sectors; Ren begins at 337.5 degrees. Table: https://www.fengshuied.com/the-24-mountains . Sitting, facing and edges
坐 Zuò means sitting and 向 Xiàng means facing. This tool uses the front-door outward bearing, with sitting opposite. Door-facing convention: https://redlotusletter.com/the-eight-directions-and-corners-of-feng-shui-luck/ . Exact sector edges belong to the next clockwise mountain. The inclusive 1.5-degree caution band is an interface rule, not a universal classical definition of 兼向 Jiān xiàng or 空亡 Kōng wáng.
Scope of the reference
The dial is a cultural reference without predictions or personal advice. Mountain yin/yang and element columns are omitted because the assignments vary by ring and school. True north uses the World Magnetic Model, as in the TOEA compass; manual bearings are not corrected.
How to use it
- Stand facing out of the front door and start the live compass, or type or drag a bearing.
- Choose magnetic or true north and the Later Heaven or Early Heaven trigram ring.
- Read the sitting and facing mountains, check the boundary flag, and open the Bagua map with this bearing.

Frequently asked questions
What does the dial represent?
It is a cultural reference to traditional feng shui assignments, without predictions or personal advice. The Later Heaven arrangement is the default; Early Heaven changes only the trigram ring.
Can I use it on a desktop?
Yes. Type or drag a manual bearing from 0 to 360 degrees. Manual bearings are used as entered; select the north reference of your original reading.
How do I take a reading?
For this tool's door-facing convention, stand facing out of the front door. Take readings at several spots away from metal and electronics. A phone sensor's error can exceed the 1.5-degree boundary band.
What does a boundary flag mean?
The reading is within 1.5 degrees of a mountain edge. This is a measurement caution, not a classification of every school's combined-facing or void-line rules.
