Add Text to Image

Put text on any picture: choose the font, size, colour, outline, shadow, and a background band, add several text boxes, and drag them into place.

Add Text to Image: Text is drawn onto the picture in your browser with the fonts on this site, including a handwriting and a script font, so it looks the same on every device. Each text box can have several lines, an outline and shadow to stay readable on busy backgrounds, and a semi-transparent band behind it. Text is placed by where you drag it, as a share of the picture's size. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Text that reads well

Keep it short, use one or two fonts at most, and leave space around the edges, since social sites and phones may crop the picture. A background band or a thin dark outline keeps white text readable on any photo.

For a captioned meme, the meme generator is quicker; to protect a photo with your name, use the image watermark tool.

Sizes for social media

Text that looks large on a computer can be tiny on a phone: on a picture shown about 400 pixels wide, aim for text at least a twentieth of the picture's height. Preview the download on your phone before posting.

How to use it

  1. Choose an image.
  2. Type your text, and pick its font, size, colour, outline, and shadow.
  3. Drag the text where you want it, add more if needed, and download JPG or PNG.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make text readable on a busy photo?

Use a light colour with a dark outline, or turn on the background band; both keep the text clear on any part of the picture.

Can I use the image commercially?

The fonts here are free for commercial use, but check that you have the right to use the photo itself.

How is this different from the meme generator?

The meme generator writes classic top and bottom captions in capitals; this tool gives full control over font, size, position, and style for any kind of picture.
