Webcam and Mic Test: Camera and Microphone Together

Test your webcam and microphone on one page before a video call. See the live preview, delivered resolution, measured frame rate, microphone level and waveform, then record and play back five seconds of audio and video.

Webcam and Mic Test: Camera and Microphone Together: Shows your live camera image and microphone input together. It measures delivered camera frames and digital sound level, and records a five-second audio and video clip when both devices and browser recording are available. The checklist confirms a running preview and detected sound; you judge echo by listening. It does not test network quality or guarantee that another call app will work. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Speak normally. A moving meter shows that sound is reaching the browser; it does not measure room loudness.

  • Camera OK: Not checked
  • Mic picking up sound: Not checked
  • No echo heard: Not checked

Echo cannot be detected reliably here. Wear headphones for playback, then confirm whether your clip sounds clear. This test does not check your call connection.

Audio and video recording is unavailable in this browser. Try another browser; the live test still works.

Both camera and microphone must be running to record audio and video together.

Troubleshooting camera and microphone access

Chrome: open the site controls beside the address, then Site settings. Reset Camera and Microphone permissions, reload and press Start test.

Edge: open the site information beside the address, then Permissions for this site. Reset Camera and Microphone permissions, reload and try again.

Firefox: open Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions. Open Settings beside Camera and Microphone, remove this site from the saved decisions, then reload.

Safari on Mac: open Safari → Settings → Websites → Camera or Microphone. Set this site to Ask or Allow, then reload.

macOS: open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera or Microphone and allow your browser. Windows: open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera or Microphone and allow access, including desktop apps where shown.

Another app may be using the camera. Close other call apps and camera tabs, check the physical privacy cover and mute switch, then retry. Permission controls vary with browser version; a managed device may require help from its administrator.

Browser media capture

Camera and microphone access requires browser permission and a secure page. Device names may be available only after permission. The test clip is recorded locally. How to use it

  1. Press Start test and allow camera and microphone access. If one cannot start, the available device can still be tested.
  2. Choose your camera and microphone, check the picture and speak to move the sound meter.
  3. Record a five-second clip, play it back with headphones and confirm whether you hear echo. Press Stop when finished.

Privacy & limitations

Camera, microphone and recordings stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Stop or leaving the page releases all capture tracks; Delete clip removes the local playback recording.

Frequently asked questions

Can I test just one available device?

Yes. Start test first requests both camera and microphone. If that request fails, each is tried separately so an available and permitted device can still work. Recording audio and video together requires both.

Why does the frame rate differ from my camera specification?

This page counts frames delivered to the preview, rather than promising the camera's maximum rate. Lighting, browser constraints and machine load can affect it. The resolution is the actual video size.

How do I check for echo?

Record normal speech, then listen with headphones and confirm whether you hear echo. No sound is sent to your speakers during the live test. Your live mic pauses while the clip plays. This is a listening check, not automatic echo detection.

Why is recording unavailable?

The browser must support a recording format that includes audio and video. If it does not, use the live preview and meter or try another browser. Recording is also disabled until both devices are running.
