Vocal Remover: Stereo Centre Cancellation

Make a rough karaoke track from a stereo mix by cancelling the centre above an adjustable bass cutoff. Compare the original and processed audio, then download WAV.

Vocal Remover: Stereo Centre Cancellation: Reduces the shared centre signal while retaining centre bass below about 120 Hz. This works only on stereo mixes with centre-panned vocals: reverb and stereo backing vocals remain, and instruments panned centre are also reduced. Mono files cannot be processed. Rough vocals-only mode keeps the removed centre signal above the cutoff. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Runs entirely in your browser

Works only on stereo mixes with centre-panned vocals. Reverb and stereo backing vocals remain. Instruments panned centre are also removed. Mono files cannot be processed. This uses centre-channel cancellation.

Your file stays in this browser. Processing and playback use your device; no audio is uploaded.

Centre cancellation

Audacity's vocal reduction documentation describes the limitations of centre cancellation: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/vocal_reduction_and_isolation.html . This tool uses stereo mid/side processing and a gradual low-frequency preservation filter.

Listening and output

A/B playback compares the same position in the original and last processed result. WAV input keeps its original sample rate and stereo channel count. For other formats, the output rate is shown beside the download. Removing the centre can change the apparent level and balance; listen at a comfortable volume.

How to use it

  1. Choose a stereo audio file supported by your browser.
  2. Set removal strength and the bass cutoff, or choose rough vocals-only mode.
  3. Process, compare A and B playback, then download WAV.

Frequently asked questions

Will this isolate every voice?

No. Centre cancellation cannot separate a voice from other centre-panned sounds, and stereo effects remain.

Why is a mono file rejected?

There is no difference between left and right channels to use for this method.

Which formats can I use?

MP3, WAV, OGG and M4A can be decoded when supported by your browser. Export is WAV; use the audio converter for other output formats.
