Precision and clean edges

The start and end sliders move in whole seconds, and the kept part is at least one second long. That suits cutting a ringtone, a quote, or a voice note down to size; for cuts to a fraction of a second, use a desktop audio editor.

The cut is made exactly at the chosen sample with no fade, so a cut in the middle of a word or a sustained note can end with an audible click. Where you can, place the start and end in a pause.

Memory and file size

The whole file is decoded into memory before trimming, at about 384 KB per second for stereo at 48 kHz. An hour-long recording therefore needs well over a gigabyte of memory, which can crash a tab on a phone or an older laptop. Short files are no problem.

The output is uncompressed WAV, so a trimmed MP3 comes out many times larger than its source: about 10 MB a minute against roughly 1 MB for a typical MP3. WAV is what audio editors and transcription tools accept most readily.

How to use it

1. Select an audio file from your device.
2. Adjust the start and end time sliders.
3. Click Save Trimmed WAV to export your clip.
