Calculate your exact solar return moment, then explore the chart wheel, signs, whole-sign houses, angles and aspects at your birthday location.
Solar Return Chart Calculator: Your Birthday Chart for the Year: Finds the exact moment the transiting Sun reaches your natal Sun’s tropical longitude in the chosen year. Draws a full chart for that moment at your birthday location, defaulting to your birth place. Explore the wheel, planet signs and degrees, whole-sign houses, ASC, MC and major aspects. Traditional emphasis notes describe the rising sign, the Sun’s house and planets in angular whole-sign houses, without predictions. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Solar return and chart method
Astronomy Engine (https://github.com/cosinekitty/astronomy) supplies tropical geocentric apparent positions under the MIT licence. GeoNames (https://www.geonames.org/) supplies city coordinates and time zones under CC BY 4.0. Calculations run in your browser.
The natal and transiting Sun use the same apparent tropical frame. From 2017, UTC dates use TT minus UTC of 69.184 seconds, assuming no unannounced future leap seconds. The IERS leap-second record (https://hpiers.obspm.fr/eop-pc/index.php?index=TAI-UTC_tab&lang=en) explains the time scales. Future civil clock times may change if leap seconds are introduced. Bisection brackets the return within four days of the birthday and narrows the root to a fraction of a second. This numerical tolerance is separate from ephemeris accuracy. Whole-sign houses begin at the return Ascendant’s sign; the MC is displayed independently.
Checked against Swiss Ephemeris
Offline comparisons use Swiss Ephemeris 2.10.03 in Moshier mode (https://www.astro.com/swisseph/). Reference numbers are test data only; the calculator does not bundle or call Swiss Ephemeris.
Solar return roots for 155 birth instants sampled across five seasons every five years from 1950 through 2100 agree within two minutes in the recorded checks. The shared planetary and house calculations also have existing Swiss Ephemeris reference fixtures.

Frequently asked questions
What is a solar return chart?
It is the chart for the moment the Sun returns to its natal tropical longitude. This can fall before or after the calendar birthday. Astrology uses the chart as a symbolic birthday reference, without a scientific basis for prediction.
Why is my birth time required?
The natal Sun’s longitude depends on the birth instant. An error of minutes changes the target and the return moment. Angles and houses depend particularly strongly on the time, so use the recorded local time and historical birth zone.
Which location should I use?
A common tradition uses your actual location at the return moment. This calculator defaults to your birth place and lets you choose a different city. The geocentric return moment is the same worldwide, while the local clock, angles and houses differ.
Which year is selected?
The default is the current calendar year, containing your next or most recent birthday. Change it to examine another year between 1900 and 2200.
Which houses and aspects are shown?
The chart uses whole-sign houses from the return Ascendant. Angular planets occupy houses 1, 4, 7 or 10. Major aspects allow eight degrees with the Sun or Moon and six otherwise, with four degrees for sextiles.
Can a solar return predict my year?
No. The emphasis list gives traditional cultural associations only. It does not predict events, evaluate risk or offer personal advice.
