Safe Zone Checker for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts
See which parts of a vertical video or thumbnail the app covers with its buttons, captions, and labels, so your text, faces, and logos stay in view.
Safe Zone Checker for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts: The picture is placed the way the app shows it, filling a 9:16 or 16:9 frame and cropping what overflows, and the areas the app covers are shaded red. The Reels and Shorts margins follow Meta's and Google's published guidance for vertical video ads; TikTok publishes templates rather than numbers, so its margins follow its standard template and are marked approximate. The exact covered area changes with caption length, ad format, and app version. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Covered by the app's buttons, captions, or labels Safe for text, faces, and logos
Meta's guidance for ads in Stories and Reels: keep about 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom, and 6% on each side free of text and logos. Apps change their layouts; last checked 2026-10-01.
What each app covers
On Reels and Stories, the top holds the account name and the bottom the caption, audio, and call to action; the like, comment, and share buttons run down the right. TikTok is similar, with a taller column of buttons. On Shorts, the right-hand buttons take more room than the left, which is why its safe area sits off centre.
On a YouTube thumbnail, the video length covers the bottom-right corner. To see a thumbnail at the sizes YouTube shows it, with its title, use the thumbnail preview.
Making a video that fits
Export at 1080 × 1920 pixels so nothing is cropped, and keep titles, subtitles, and faces inside the safe area. To make a picture the right size first, use the image resizer.

Frequently asked questions
What is a safe zone?
The part of the frame that the app leaves clear. Outside it, the like and share buttons, the account name, the caption, and the progress bar sit on top of your video, so text or faces there are hidden or hard to read.
Are the margins the same for organic posts and ads?
Close, but not identical: ads add a call-to-action button and a label, so their bottom area is usually larger. The margins here are the advertising guidance, which is the safer of the two.
My picture is not 9:16. What happens?
The apps fill the screen with it and crop the edges, as the preview shows. For the sharpest result, export your video at 1080 × 1920.
