Instagram Grid Maker: Split a Photo into Posts
Split one picture into 3, 6, 9, or 12 tiles that join up on your Instagram profile, in the 3:4 shape the profile grid uses, numbered in the order to post them.
Instagram Grid Maker: Split a Photo into Posts: Instagram's profile grid shows three posts per row as 3:4 portrait tiles. The tool takes the part of your picture with the right shape for the grid, splits it into equal tiles, and saves each as a 1,080 × 1,440 JPG, the size that fills a grid tile without being cropped. Because the newest post appears top left, the tiles are numbered from the bottom right: post them in that order. A square 1:1 option is there for the older square grid. Planning a grid post
A split picture works best with a strong subject that spans several tiles, such as a panorama, a group photo, or a bold graphic, and with each tile still interesting on its own, because followers see the tiles one at a time in their feed.
To post a single picture at the full grid size instead, resize it to 1,080 × 1,440 with the image resizer, or crop it to 3:4 first.
Posting several tiles
Post the tiles one after another in a single session so that nothing else lands between them. A carousel post does not work for this: it occupies only one grid tile.
How to use it
- Choose a picture and the grid: 3 × 1 to 3 × 4.
- Drag the preview to choose the part of the picture used.
- Download the tiles and post them in order, starting with number 1.
Privacy & limitations
Your picture never leaves your device; the tiles are cut in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
What order do I post the tiles in?
Post tile 1 first and the highest number last. Instagram puts each new post at the top left of your grid and pushes the others along, so the bottom-right tile has to go up first.
Why 3:4 and not square?
In 2025 Instagram changed profile grids from square to 3:4 portrait thumbnails. Tiles cut at 3:4 (1,080 × 1,440) show in full on the grid; square tiles are cropped at the sides.
Will the picture line up perfectly?
Almost: Instagram puts a thin gap between tiles, so a line running across tiles has a small break, which the preview shows. Pinned posts and any later posts also shift the grid, so post all the tiles together.
Does it reduce quality?
Each tile is saved as a high-quality JPG at Instagram's full size. For sharp tiles, start with a picture at least 3,240 pixels wide for three columns.
