RUT Validator (Chile): The digits of a RUT are multiplied from the right by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, starting again after 7, and added. The check digit is 11 minus the remainder after dividing by 11, written 0 when the result is 11 and K when it is 10. Results agreed with the python-stdnum library on 6,000 numbers. The check digit (dígito verificador) comes from multiplying the digits by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 from the right, repeating, and taking 11 minus the remainder after dividing by 11; 11 is written 0 and 10 is written K. Only the format is checked; everything stays in your browser.
A worked example
For 12345678, the digits from the right are multiplied by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 2, 3: 8×2 + 7×3 + 6×4 + 5×5 + 4×6 + 3×7 + 2×2 + 1×3 = 138. 138 divided by 11 leaves 6, and 11 − 6 = 5, so the RUT is 12.345.678-5.
For Argentine and Mexican numbers, see the CUIT validator and the CURP and RFC validator.
Writing a RUT
The usual written form groups the digits in threes with dots and puts the check digit after a dash, as in 12.345.678-5; forms and databases often store it without dots, as 12345678-5. Both are the same number.
How to use it
- Type or paste RUT numbers, one per line, with or without dots and dash.
- Read which are valid; for the others, the check digit they should have.
- Copy the formatted numbers.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between RUT and RUN?
The RUN is a person's national number; the RUT is the tax number, which for people is the same number. Companies have a RUT too.
Why is the check digit sometimes K?
When the calculation gives 10, which does not fit in one digit, the letter K is used instead.
Does a valid result mean the RUT exists?
No: only that it is correctly formed; confirm a company's RUT with the SII.
