CUIT and CUIL Validator (Argentina)

Check Argentine CUIT and CUIL numbers: 11 digits, a known type, and the check digit, formatted as 20-12345678-6. Checks a list at once.

CUIT and CUIL Validator (Argentina): The first two digits give the type, such as 20 or 27 for people and 30 for companies; the next eight are usually the DNI or a company number; and the last is a check digit computed with the weights 5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and the remainder after dividing by 11. Results agreed with the python-stdnum library on 6,000 numbers. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Runs entirely in your browser

The first two digits show the type (20 and 27 for people, 30 for companies), the next eight are the DNI or company number, and the last is a check digit on weights 5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Only the format is checked, not AFIP's records; everything stays in your browser.

A worked example

For 20-12345678, the digits 2012345678 are multiplied by 5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2: the products add up to 148. 148 divided by 11 leaves 5, and 11 − 5 = 6, so the CUIT is 20-12345678-6.

CUIT and DNI

For people, the eight middle digits are normally the DNI, padded with zeros in front for shorter numbers; a mismatch between a CUIL and the person's DNI is worth checking before filing payroll.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste CUIT or CUIL numbers, one per line, with or without dashes.
  2. Read which are valid, and the type of each.
  3. For any that fail, see the check digit or type that would be expected.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between CUIT and CUIL?

Both use the same format and check digit: the CUIT identifies taxpayers, the CUIL workers for social security. A person usually has the same number for both.

Why might a person's number start with 23?

When 20 or 27 would give a check digit of 10, which cannot be written, AFIP uses 23 instead and adjusts the digit.

Does a valid result mean the number is registered?

No: it means it is correctly formed; check AFIP's records to confirm it is in use.
