Ringtone Maker (M4R and MP3)
Cut a ringtone from any song: pick the part you want, up to 40 seconds, add a fade in and out, and download it as M4R for iPhone or MP3 for Android.
Ringtone Maker (M4R and MP3): The chosen part is cut from the decoded audio, faded in and out so it does not start or stop abruptly, and encoded. MP3 uses the LAME encoder; the iPhone's M4R format is AAC audio in an MP4 file, encoded by your browser's own AAC encoder and written into a standard MP4 file here, which Apple's tools read. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Only use music you have the right to use. For an iPhone, copy the .m4r file to the phone with Finder on a Mac, or iTunes or the Apple Devices app on Windows, then choose it in Settings › Sounds & Haptics. On Android, choose the MP3 as the ringtone in the phone's sound settings.
Your file is processed in your browser and never uploaded. MP3 files are encoded with LAME, free software under the LGPL, loaded as a separate file; its source is at lame.sourceforge.io.
Picking the right part
A chorus or a strong riff that is recognisable in the first second makes the best ringtone, since calls are often answered quickly. Short fades stop it from clicking when it starts or loops.
To trim audio for other uses, see the audio trimmer; if the song is quiet, raise it first with the volume booster.
M4R and MP3
An M4R file is an M4A file, AAC audio in an MP4 container, with a different extension that iPhones recognise as a ringtone. Android phones accept MP3, as well as most other audio formats.
How to use it
- Choose a song from your device.
- Move the start point and set the length and fades, then preview the ringtone.
- Download M4R for an iPhone or MP3 for Android, and add it to your phone.

Frequently asked questions
Why can my browser not make an M4R?
M4R needs AAC, and only browsers with a built-in AAC encoder, such as Chrome, Edge, and Safari on most systems, can produce it; the MP3 works in every browser.
How long can a ringtone be?
This tool allows up to 40 seconds; phones repeat the ringtone while it rings, so a short, recognisable part works best.
Can I use any song?
Only music you have the right to use, such as songs you bought for personal use where that is allowed, your own recordings, or music under a licence that permits it.
