Interest is calculated on the lowest balance between the close of the 5th day and month end, then credited annually. A deposit by 5 April earns all 12 months; a later April deposit earns 11. No withdrawals are modelled.

The model uses 15 complete financial years and optional five-year extensions. Statutory maturity is 15 years from the end of the opening financial year, so your opening date can add an initial partial year. Extensions with deposits require the prescribed election.

Frequently asked questions

Why does 5 April matter?

PPF interest uses the lowest balance between the close of the 5th day and month end. A later April deposit misses April’s interest.

Is the maturity date exactly 15 years from opening?

Statutory maturity is 15 years from the end of the opening financial year. This estimate models 15 full financial years; an opening partial year is excluded.

Can the rate change?

Yes. The notified rate is an editable default held constant in the projection. Check the latest government notification and extension-election rules.
