Payment Fee Calculator: PayPal, Stripe, Square, Etsy, eBay

See what PayPal, Stripe, Square, Etsy, or eBay takes from a sale and what you receive, or work out what to charge to receive a set amount, with each service's standard US fees side by side.

Payment Fee Calculator: PayPal, Stripe, Square, Etsy, eBay: Each service's standard published fee for US sellers is applied to the amount: a percentage plus a fixed fee per payment, an extra percentage for international payments where the service charges one, and eBay's lower rate on the part of a sale above $7,500. To work backwards from the amount you want, the calculator finds the lowest price, to the cent, that leaves you at least that much. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Standard published rates for sellers in the United States, checked on October 1, 2026. Your account may have different rates. eBay and Etsy charge their fees on shipping too, so enter the total the buyer pays; fees on sales tax are not included. Always confirm on the service's own fee page: PayPal.

Percentage and fixed fees

Most payment services charge a percentage of each payment plus a fixed amount. The fixed part hurts small sales most: $0.49 is about 5% of a $10 sale but only 0.5% of $100, so for low prices the fixed fee can matter more than the percentage.

Marketplaces add their own commission on top of payment processing. On Etsy, the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% plus $0.25 processing fee together take about 10% of a typical sale, before the listing fee and any offsite ads.

Pricing so the fees are covered

Adding the fee percentage to the price does not quite cover it, because the fee is also charged on the extra. Work backwards instead: the calculator's second mode gives the price that leaves exactly what you want. To see what that price leaves as profit after costs, use the profit margin calculator; for buyers paying in another currency, the currency converter gives today's rate.

How to use it

  1. Choose the payment service or marketplace.
  2. Enter the price, or switch modes and enter the amount you want to receive.
  3. Read the fee and the result, and compare the same sale on the other services.

Frequently asked questions

How much does PayPal charge to receive a payment?

For a US business account, PayPal Checkout payments cost 3.49% plus $0.49, and card payments through PayPal 2.99% plus $0.49, with 1.50% more when the buyer is abroad. On a $100 sale through PayPal Checkout you receive $96.02.

How do I work out what to charge to receive a set amount?

Add the fixed fee to the amount you want, then divide by one minus the percentage. For $100 through Stripe at 2.9% plus $0.30: (100 + 0.30) ÷ 0.971 = $103.30. The calculator does this for every service and rounds up to the cent.

Why does my statement show different fees?

These are the standard published rates. Accounts can have negotiated or volume rates, some categories and payment methods cost more, and currency conversion is charged separately. eBay and Etsy also take their percentage of shipping and, in part, of sales tax, so enter the total the buyer pays.

How current are the fees?

The page shows the date the fees were last checked against each service's own fee page, and links to it. Services change their fees from time to time, so check the link before relying on a figure.
