MOV to GIF — Local Browser Tool

Make a silent looping GIF from a playable MOV clip, with width, frame rate and time-range controls.

MOV to GIF — Local Browser Tool: Use a MOV recording for a short demonstration, reaction or animated illustration that needs to loop without a video player. Set a start and end time to keep only the part that matters. The start must be before the end and within the clip duration. The GIF export uses at most 12 seconds and 120 frames, at 5 or 10 frames per second. Width choices are 240, 480 and 640 pixels; a smaller source is not enlarged and very tall clips are fitted within a 640-pixel height. GIF has no audio and supports a limited colour palette, so gradients may show banding and photographs can look coarse. A MOV file can contain several codecs; your browser must be able to decode the video track. Unsupported or protected clips show an error. The original file stays untouched. Progress advances while frames are captured, and Cancel stops the active job. Once the result is ready, compare the animated preview and output size before downloading. GIF can be larger than a short video despite the smaller dimensions. A lower width, shorter range or lower frame rate can reduce its size. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

The actual file is tested for decoding when conversion starts. MKV and AVI may not play in this browser. Protected video and unsupported codecs cannot be converted.

Animation and colour

GIF89a defines indexed colours and frame delays. The W3C-hosted format specification (https://www.w3.org/Graphics/GIF/spec-gif89a.txt) describes the format. This export loops and contains no soundtrack.

Local conversion limits

Conversion accepts files smaller than 250 MB and readable videos up to ten minutes, with an image area no larger than 3840 × 2160. Recording takes about the clip duration and needs the tab kept in front. Size and quality can change; subtitles, extra tracks and metadata are not retained.

How to use it

  1. Choose a file in the input format shown.
  2. Adjust the available output controls.
  3. Create the result, check its preview and download it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the GIF keep the MOV soundtrack?

No. GIF stores animation frames without audio. Use MOV to MP4 if you need a video with sound.

Why is my MOV not readable?

The container may contain a video codec that this browser does not support. Try another browser or convert the source to a playable MP4 or WebM with a desktop application.

Can I export the whole recording?

The source can be up to ten minutes, but each GIF export is limited to 12 seconds and 120 frames. Choose a short range that communicates the action clearly.
