Outline rendering

markmap transforms Markdown into an interactive tree. The transformer and viewer are bundled locally and licensed under MIT. Options reference: https://markmap.js.org/docs/json-options

Export behaviour

This tool exports the expanded branches as a standalone SVG with native text, or as a PNG. HTML, links, scripts and external resources are excluded. Label width is measured in pixels. There is a limit of 200 outline lines and 50,000 characters.

How to use it

  1. Edit the starter outline, or clear it and add headings and nested lists.
  2. Choose colours, label width and an initial expand level. Click circles to fold branches.
  3. Fit the view, copy the outline, or download SVG or PNG.

Privacy & limitations

The outline stays in this browser session. Nothing is uploaded or saved to local storage. Images, links and external plugin assets are disabled.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste plain text?

Yes. Non-heading lines become list items and indentation becomes nesting. Markdown formatting is reduced to plain labels.

What is included in the export?

The currently expanded branches are exported at their full bounds, independently of pan and zoom. Files have a white background unless you choose preview colours.

How is this different from the Mermaid editor?

This tool is for outlines and interactive mind maps. Use the Mermaid editor for other diagram languages, the chart maker for numerical data, or the timeline maker for dated events.
