Flashlight Online

Turn on your phone's camera light from the browser where it is supported, or turn the screen into a bright white, warm, or red light, with an SOS signal in Morse code.

Flashlight Online: Browsers can switch on the light beside the rear camera through the camera's torch setting, which Chrome on Android supports; the camera is opened only to switch it, and no image is used. Where that is not possible, the screen becomes the light, full screen and kept awake. Red light preserves night vision, as astronomers use. The SOS signal flashes three short, three long, three short, with Morse timing. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Phone's camera light

Turns on the light next to the rear camera, where the browser allows it: Chrome on Android does; Safari on iPhone does not. The camera is opened only to switch the light; no picture is taken or shown.

Bright screen

Fills the screen with light at full brightness; turn the phone's brightness up for the most light.

Getting the most light

For the bright screen, turn the screen brightness to maximum and switch off night mode or blue-light filters, which tint and dim it. The camera light is far brighter than any screen, so use it where your browser allows.

To signal other messages in Morse code, with light or sound, use the Morse code translator.

SOS

SOS is three short flashes, three long, and three short, repeated: the international distress signal, recognised by rescuers. Use it only in a real emergency, and call the emergency services first if you can.

How to use it

  1. Press Turn the light on to use the camera light, and allow the camera when asked.
  2. Or choose a colour and press Light up the screen; tap the screen to turn it off.
  3. Tick Flash SOS to signal SOS in Morse code.

Privacy & limitations

Everything runs in your browser; the camera is used only to switch its light.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the camera light not work on my iPhone?

Safari and other browsers on iPhone do not let websites control the camera light. Use the bright screen here, or the flashlight button in Control Centre.

Why does the page ask for the camera?

The light belongs to the camera, so browsers only switch it on through the camera. Nothing is recorded or shown, and the camera is released when you turn the light off.

What is the red light for?

Red light keeps your eyes adapted to the dark, so you can still see the stars or the path after looking at the screen.
