Double-click Test: Suspected Mouse Chatter

Count presses of the left, middle, right, back and forward buttons and flag same-button intervals below an adjustable threshold, starting at 80 ms.

Double-click Test: Suspected Mouse Chatter: Records each mouse-button press rather than relying on the browser's double-click event. Same-button intervals strictly below the chosen threshold are suspected chatter. Each button is analysed independently, and threshold changes recheck the session. Totals cover all presses; the log displays the latest 200. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

A short interval is suspected chatter, not proof of a faulty switch. Deliberate fast clicks can also be flagged. Each button is checked separately using press events, including middle, back and forward where the browser exposes them. Keyboard activation and touch taps are not measured.

Changing the threshold rechecks every press in this session. Counts include the whole session; the log shows the latest 200. Browser timestamp rounding and operating-system filtering can hide switch bounce. A side button may still trigger browser navigation on some devices.

Mouse-button numbering

The UI Events specification assigns button codes 0 to the primary button, 1 to auxiliary, 2 to secondary, 3 to back and 4 to forward. Source: https://www.w3.org/TR/uievents/#dom-mouseevent-button

Interpretation

Interval = current press timestamp minus the previous timestamp for the same button. The default 80 ms threshold is a screening choice, not a diagnostic standard. A flagged interval means suspected chatter only; operating-system filtering can hide bounce.

How to use it

  1. Click slowly, once at a time, over the test pad.
  2. Check per-button counts and suspected chatter; adjust the threshold if needed.
  3. Read elapsed timestamps and same-button intervals in the log, or reset.

Privacy & limitations

The press log stays in this tab and is cleared by reset or leaving the page.

Frequently asked questions

Does a flag prove the switch is worn?

No. Intentional fast clicks, timestamp rounding or other input issues can create short intervals. Repeat slow single presses and compare with Mouse Tester.

Why count presses instead of double-click events?

The browser's double-click event is tied to operating-system timing and normally the primary button. Presses let this test examine each button separately.

Will back and forward work?

Only if your browser exposes those buttons to the page. Some browser or device shortcuts can still navigate away.
