Letter formation and joins

Follow the model with a light, steady stroke. Keep small letter bodies between the dashed midline and baseline; let tall strokes rise to the headline and descending strokes fall to the lowest guide. Trace a word, then try it on the blank row.

Practise rounded bodies in a, c, d, g and o, then the repeated curves in i, u, m and n. Notice how a letter’s exit stroke leads into the next. Capitals, dots and crossbars may need a pen lift; do not force every pair to join.

These US-style and UK-style models are teaching fonts, not a claim of alignment with a school curriculum. The sheets show letter shapes and joins, not animated pen-stroke instructions.

For dotted or outlined print-letter tracing, use the handwriting worksheet.

Guides and formation

The four guides mark the headline, small-letter midline, baseline and descender level. Trace a model lightly, then practise the same movement in the blank row. Some letters require a pen lift, and joins depend on the chosen model.

For dotted or outlined print-letter tracing, use the handwriting worksheet. For empty ruling alone, use lined paper.
