Compress Image to 100KB, 200KB, 500KB or Any Size

Compress images from 20 KB to 2 MB or a custom target. Pick 50, 100, 200 or 500 KB, compare the result and download a JPG or WebP with no upload.

Compress Image to 100KB, 200KB, 500KB or Any Size: TOEA searches for the highest JPG or WebP quality that fits your target. When quality alone cannot meet the limit, it reduces the pixel dimensions. Choose a preset or a custom limit from 5 KB to 20 MB; the result shows its actual byte count against the target. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Target file size

Target: 100 KB (100000 bytes)

Dimensions and quality work together

At small targets such as 20 KB, a large photo can become blocky if quality is lowered too far. The tool searches for the highest quality that fits, then reduces the pixel dimensions if needed. Inspect the result at its intended display size.

If the form states exact pixel dimensions, prepare them with the image resizer, or remove unused background with the image cropper, before compressing. Check the final dimensions too: reaching a small target may require further resizing.

Checking the result before you upload

The target is a maximum, not an exact size. Targets use 1,000 bytes per KB and 1,000 KB per MB, while the file-size display uses 1,024 bytes per KB. The measured result and target byte counts let you compare them directly. A result below 200 KB or 2 MB does not need padding to reach the limit.

Check small text, faces and thin signature strokes in the downloaded image. Keep required document edges visible. For a document with several pages, use the PDF compressor instead.

Common size limits

Small form attachments such as signatures and compact ID photos may need 20 KB or 50 KB. Crop to the required area and check that faces and signature strokes remain clear.

Photo fields in application and registration forms may ask for 100 KB or 200 KB. A 500 KB limit can suit a single scanned document or supporting photo. Keep required document edges visible and inspect small text in the result.

Forms accepting larger scans, listing photos or portfolio images may allow 1 MB or 2 MB. These are examples of how limits are used, not universal requirements: follow the size, format and dimensions stated by your form.

How to use it

  1. Pick 20, 50, 100, 200 or 500 KB, 1 MB or 2 MB, or enter a custom KB/MB limit.
  2. Choose a photo or scan; it compresses automatically. Changing the target creates a new result.
  3. Check the measured size against your target, inspect the image and download.

Privacy & limitations

The image is processed in your browser with no upload. A re-encoded result leaves camera details and location behind; a file that is already under the limit in the right format is kept exactly as it was.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a photo under 20 KB without it looking blocky?

Crop away unused background and reduce the dimensions to what the form needs before lowering quality. At 20 KB, fewer pixels at a reasonable quality can look clearer than a large image at very low quality. The tool reduces dimensions when quality alone cannot fit; inspect the face or text before downloading.

How can I fit a photo or signature under 50 KB or 100 KB?

Choose the matching preset and use JPG if the form accepts it. Crop a signature closely, leaving a small clear margin, and check thin strokes in the result. For a portrait, keep the required head and shoulder area. If the form also specifies pixel dimensions, set those with the Image Resizer first and check the final dimensions after compression.

Why is my 200 KB result smaller than 200 KB?

The target is a maximum, not an exact file size. TOEA uses a 200,000-byte limit and keeps the highest quality that fits, so the encoder may land below it. An original JPG already below the limit is kept without padding. The file-size display uses 1,024 bytes per KB; the byte comparison shows the exact counts.

Should I use PNG or JPG for small targets?

JPG usually suits photos at 20–500 KB. PNG preserves sharp lines and transparency, but its lossless encoding cannot be tuned with a quality setting. This target-size tool exports JPG or WebP; JPG gives transparent areas a white background. For a signature that requires PNG or transparency, use the Image Resizer or a PNG conversion tool and check the saved size.

Can I compress a scan to 500 KB, 1 MB or 2 MB?

Yes. Pick the limit required by the form and inspect small text, dates and document edges in the result. A larger target can retain more detail, but it does not restore detail missing from the original. These presets use decimal units: 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes and 2 MB is 2,000,000 bytes.

Can I share a target size or enter my own limit?

Yes. Presets and valid custom limits update the page address, so reopening or sharing it selects the same target. Enter a number and choose KB or MB for a custom limit from 5 KB to 20 MB. Images stay on your device; the link carries only the target size.
