Capital names
Capital names were written from public-domain CIA World Factbook capital facts and the 2025 world political map. This is a dated reference rather than a live feed. Equatorial Guinea now uses Ciudad de la Paz, following its government's 2 January 2026 announcement: https://www.guineaecuatorialpress.com/noticias/el_presidente_de_la_republica_proclama_la_ciudad_de_la_paz_como_capital_de_la_republica_de_guinea_ecuatorial_con_la_firma_de_un_decreto_ley .

Frequently asked questions
What happens with multiple capitals?
South Africa accepts Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein, with their administrative, legislative and judicial roles explained. Bolivia accepts Sucre and La Paz. Other countries with a separate seat of government also accept the names listed in the answer.
Does spelling have to be exact?
Accents, case and punctuation are ignored. Common alternatives such as Washington for Washington, D.C., Tarawa for South Tarawa, and Kotte for Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte are accepted. Unlisted misspellings count as incorrect.
Is the list live?
No. It is a dated factual reference based on the CIA World Factbook's 2025 material, with Equatorial Guinea updated in January 2026. Capitals and government seats can change. Nauru uses Yaren as its government seat rather than an official capital, and Bern is Switzerland's federal city.
How are wrong choices selected?
Choices come from the selected continent's capital list. An alternative accepted answer is never offered as a wrong choice. Each country appears once per round, and skipped answers count as mistakes.
