Reading the failures
A 404 or 410 means the target is gone; update the link or remove it. 403, 429, and some unusual codes often mean the target site blocked an automated request, not that the page is missing, so open those links in a browser before changing them. LinkedIn, for example, answers automated requests with a non-standard 999.
Connection errors and timeouts can be temporary; check again later before acting. A link that redirects to a site's home page is technically working but has usually lost the page it pointed to.
Checking more than 20 links
Only the first 20 links on the page are checked. For a longer page, use the link extractor to list every link, then check the rest individually with the HTTP status checker, starting with links to your own site, which you can fix yourself. When one of your own pages moves, redirect its old URL rather than relying on every page that links to it being updated.
How to use it
- Enter a public page URL.
- Choose Check page links.
- Review the first 20 discovered links and any failures.
Privacy & limitations
The submitted page and sampled links are requested through TOEA’s API and not stored. This is a focused sample, not a whole-site crawl.

Frequently asked questions
Why are only 20 links checked?
The cap keeps the free tool fast and prevents it from becoming an unrestricted high-volume crawler.
Can a working link be reported as failed?
Yes. Sites may block bots, require authentication, vary by region, or respond differently to automated requests.
