What happens at the joins
Files are placed end to end with no gap and no crossfade, in the order of the list; the move buttons shift a file up or down. If a pause is wanted between pieces, it has to be part of the files themselves. Levels are not evened out either, so a quiet interview followed by a loud music clip will jump in volume at the join.
Cut unwanted silence or noise from each piece with the audio trimmer before joining, since the joined file is harder to edit.
Mixing different sources
Every file is decoded at the same sample rate, so a 44.1 kHz MP3 and a 48 kHz recording join without speeding up or slowing down. If any file is stereo, the result is stereo, and mono files are copied to both channels so they play centred.
The result is uncompressed WAV at about 10 MB per minute for stereo, so joining an hour of material makes a file of roughly 600 MB.
