What a photo can reveal

Phone photos routinely record the GPS position where they were taken, often to within a few metres, together with the date and time, the phone model, and the software that edited them. Some files also keep a small embedded preview of the original, which can still show what was cropped out of the visible picture.

Removing metadata rebuilds the image from its pixels alone, so all of that is left behind, including the embedded preview.

When stripping matters most

Large social networks generally remove location data when a photo is posted, but many channels pass files through untouched: email attachments, cloud-drive share links, forum and marketplace uploads, and photos sent as files rather than as pictures in messaging apps. Those are the times to clean a photo first.

Check the result with the EXIF viewer. Metadata is only part of the picture: faces, house numbers, and number plates are in the pixels, and the privacy blur tool covers those.

How to use it

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image.
  2. Create a metadata-free pixel copy.
  3. Download the clean result.

Privacy & limitations

The source stays local. Always verify sensitive workflows independently because file formats and browser encoders can vary.
