Pixelate Image — Local Browser Tool

Make a block mosaic across a whole picture, selected rectangles or a painted brush area, then save a PNG.

Pixelate Image — Local Browser Tool: Choose whole image for a mosaic effect, rectangles for several separate patches, or brush area to paint along an irregular subject. Block size is measured in original image pixels. The selected image is reduced to a coarse grid and enlarged with crisp edges. Increasing block size removes more detail, but small faces and text may remain recognisable. Rectangles smaller than four pixels in either direction are ignored. Brush strokes use overlapping square patches. The clear button removes all selected areas, and switching to whole image covers the entire picture. PNG, JPG and WebP files are supported when your browser can decode them. Files must be smaller than 50 MB, with dimensions no larger than 8192 pixels and no more than 40 million pixels in total. Use export scale to save a smaller or larger version; enlargement does not restore the lost detail. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

The mosaic covers the whole image.

Pixelation may leave details recognisable. Inspect the result before sharing sensitive information.

Selecting areas

The preview maps pointer coordinates onto the original image size, so dragging still works when the picture is scaled down on a phone. The Pointer Events specification (https://www.w3.org/TR/pointerevents3/) describes mouse, pen and touch input.

Local image export

PNG output keeps transparency and the image dimensions shown beside the download. Export scale changes the saved dimensions; preview controls remain in original image pixels. The HTML canvas specification (https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/canvas.html) describes browser image rendering and export.

How to use it

  1. Choose a file in the input format shown.
  2. Adjust the available output controls.
  3. Create the result, check its preview and download it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pixelate only a face?

Choose selected rectangles and drag around the face, or choose brush area and paint over it. Inspect the saved image before sharing. A block mosaic does not guarantee anonymity; use a solid redaction for information that must be hidden.

How does block size work?

A larger value produces fewer blocks and a stronger mosaic. The grid is fitted to each selected region, so edge blocks can differ slightly from the slider value.

Can I undo the selected areas?

Clear areas removes the current selections. Choose the original image again to start over. Exporting never modifies the original file.
