Link preview inspectorSafe public URL check

Reads public HTML metadata without executing page scripts.

The tags a good preview needs

The Open Graph protocol lists four basic tags: og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url. Add og:description for the text under the title. The image must be an absolute URL that is publicly reachable, not behind a login or blocked by robots.txt, and a 1.91:1 image such as 1200 × 630 is the safest shape across platforms. X reads Open Graph tags when its own are absent, but it needs <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image"> to show the large image layout.

Forcing a platform to update

Platforms store a preview the first time a link is shared. Facebook's Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn's Post Inspector fetch the page again and replace the cached preview; elsewhere, publishing the new image under a new file name often gets it picked up sooner than replacing the old file.

If this checker sees tags that a platform ignores, check the page with the HTTP status checker: some firewalls block the crawlers platforms use, and the preview falls back to nothing.

How to use it

  1. Paste a public page URL.
  2. Choose “Inspect preview.”
  3. Compare the rendered preview with the raw metadata fields and warnings.

Privacy & limitations

The URL is processed through TOEA’s safe fetch service and is not retained. The preview is an approximation: individual social platforms may cache data or apply their own cropping and fallback rules.
