GPA Calculator
Work out your grade point average on the 4.0 scale from letter grades and credits, with weighted GPA for honors and AP or IB courses and your cumulative GPA.
GPA Calculator: Each grade becomes grade points on the common 4.0 scale, from 4.0 for an A to 0 for an F, which are multiplied by the course's credits, added up, and divided by the total credits. A weighted GPA adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB to every grade but an F, a common rule that schools apply in different ways. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

The grade scale used here
A is 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D− 0.7, and F 0. A+ counts as 4.0 unless you tick the 4.3 box, since schools differ. Credits weight each course: a 4-credit course counts a third more than a 3-credit one, so a good grade in a heavy course lifts the average more.
Raising a GPA
The more credits already behind a GPA, the less one term moves it. Enter your earlier GPA and credits, then try different grades for this term's courses to see what is within reach. Some schools replace a failed grade when the course is retaken, and some average both attempts, so check your school's policy before planning around a retake. For other averages, the percentage calculator works out scores and changes.
How to use it
- Choose a grade and the credits for each course; add or remove courses as needed.
- Mark honors and AP or IB courses for a weighted GPA, and A+ as 4.3 if your school does.
- Add an earlier GPA and its credits to see your cumulative GPA.

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add those up, and divide by the total credits. An A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B+ (3.3) in a 4-credit course give (12 + 13.2) ÷ 7 = 3.6.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA uses the same 4.0 scale for every course. Weighted GPA adds extra points for harder courses, so an A in an AP class can count as 5.0. Colleges usually see both, and many recalculate GPA their own way.
What is a good GPA?
A 3.0 is a B average and a 4.0 is straight A's on the unweighted scale. What counts as good depends on the school, the programme, and whether the figure is weighted, and scholarships and programmes often publish their own minimum, so check theirs.
How are pass/fail courses counted?
They are usually left out of GPA, because they have no grade points. Leave the grade empty for such a course and it is skipped.
