Days Until Date
Find the signed number of calendar days from today or another date to a target.
Days Until Date: Count how many calendar-day steps separate a chosen starting date from a target. The starting field initially uses today's date on your device, but you can replace it. A target in the past gives a negative count, while a target on the starting date gives zero. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Days until target
—
- Target date
- —
Days = target date − from date- Dates are calendar dates at UTC midnight; no local timezone or daylight-saving adjustment is applied.
- Results are planning utilities. Public holidays, locale-specific work rules, and company policies are not inferred.
- The target date is not included as an extra day; a past target returns a negative result.
Signed countdown formula and example
Let F be the From date and T the Target date, each represented by a consecutive calendar-day number. Days until target D = T − F. Equal dates give D = 0; advancing the target by one valid date increases D by one. No extra day is added for either endpoint.
With F = 2024-02-28 and T = 2024-03-01, there are two steps: 28 February to 29 February, then 29 February to 1 March. The result is 2 days until target, and the target output is 2024-03-01. The leap day is part of the interval, even though the month changes shortly afterwards.
Date countdowns versus elapsed time
The ISO date-format summary (https://www.iso.org/iso-8601-date-and-time-format.html) explains the year-first notation used for the target output. Include the year when sharing a countdown target so a future reader can identify the intended occurrence.
This tool compares calendar dates without a time of day. A target tomorrow can be only a few minutes away from the moment you check, yet still be one calendar day later. The device's local date determines the initial From field; once you enter both dates, the comparison does not convert them between locations. For a travel arrival, choose the local date relevant to the arrival before calculating.
How to use it
- Check the From date, which initially follows your device's current date.
- Choose the target date for your countdown.
- Calculate and read the signed day count together with the target date.

Frequently asked questions
Should I add one to include today in the countdown?
The displayed count measures date changes. Tomorrow is one day away and today is zero. If you need a list including both the starting and target dates, that is a different inclusive count.
Why can Days until target be negative?
The target is earlier than the From date. The minus sign records direction, so its magnitude tells you how many calendar days have already passed since that target.
Is this a live countdown to midnight?
No. It compares the dates in the fields when you calculate. It does not count seconds, select a destination time zone or continuously refresh the starting date as midnight passes.
