Crop Factor Calculator (Equivalent Focal Length)
Find the crop factor of a camera sensor, the full-frame equivalent focal length and aperture of a lens, its angle of view, and the matching focal length on other sensors.
Crop Factor Calculator (Equivalent Focal Length): The crop factor is the full-frame diagonal, 43.27 mm, divided by the sensor's diagonal: 1.53 for Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm APS-C, 1.61 for Canon APS-C, and 2 for Micro Four Thirds. Multiply a focal length by it to get the full-frame lens with the same field of view, and the f-number to get the same depth of field. The angle of view is 2 × atan(sensor size ÷ 2 × focal length), for a lens focused at infinity. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

A 35 mm lens on this sensor frames like 54 mm on full frame. The lens itself does not change: its f-number still sets the exposure.
A worked example
A 35 mm f/1.8 lens on a Nikon, Sony, or Fujifilm APS-C camera frames like a 54 mm lens on full frame, and gives the depth of field of about f/2.8 there. On Micro Four Thirds, a 25 mm lens frames like a 50 mm.
To see how much will be sharp at a given distance, use the depth of field calculator.
Sensor sizes
Full frame is the 36 × 24 mm of 35 mm film. APS-C sensors are about 23.5 × 15.6 mm (22.3 × 14.9 mm for Canon), Micro Four Thirds 17.3 × 13 mm, and a 1-inch sensor 13.2 × 8.8 mm. The inch sizes of small sensors are a convention from old video tubes, not a measurement: a 1-inch sensor's diagonal is about 16 mm.
For the shape of the picture rather than its size, see the aspect ratio calculator.
How to use it
- Choose the camera's sensor size.
- Type the lens's focal length and, if you like, its aperture.
- Read the equivalent focal length, aperture, and angle of view, and the matching lens for other sensors.

Frequently asked questions
Does a crop sensor make a lens longer?
No: the lens projects the same image, and the smaller sensor records only its middle, which looks like the view of a longer lens on full frame.
Does the crop factor change the exposure?
No: f/2.8 gives the same exposure on any sensor. The equivalent aperture describes depth of field and total light gathered, not the settings.
Why does my camera say 1.5 when this says 1.53?
Makers round the figure; sensors also vary by a few tenths of a millimetre between models.
