French Gross to Net Salary Estimator (Brut / Net): Net before income tax is approximated by gross × (1 − contribution rate). The assumptions are about 22% for private non-cadre employees, 25% for cadres and 15% for fonctionnaires. Reverse conversion divides by the same factor. Monthly hours default to 151.67, rounded from 35 × 52 ÷ 12; annual amounts assume twelve equal months. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

An approximation: net ≈ gross × (1 − contribution rate). Reverse conversion divides net before income tax by the same factor. The defaults are about 22% for non-cadre private employees, 25% for cadres and 15% for fonctionnaires. Hours default to 151.67 per month, rounded from 35 × 52 ÷ 12. Annual equivalents assume twelve equal months, without bonuses.
Optional income tax withholding (prélèvement à la source) is estimated by applying your personal rate to the estimated net. Actual payroll uses taxable net, which can differ.

Two directions

Gross to net multiplies by one minus the assumed contribution rate. Net to gross divides net before income tax by that factor, so the two directions are consistent within this approximation.

Income tax withholding

The optional estimate applies your personal rate to estimated net pay and subtracts it. It does not reproduce the separate taxable-net calculation on an actual payslip. Check the payslip and the official simulator on urssaf.fr.

How to use it

  1. Enter an amount, its period and the conversion direction.
  2. Choose an employment category and adjust monthly hours if needed.
  3. Optionally enter your personal withholding rate, then compare the equivalents.

Frequently asked questions

Does net mean before or after income tax?

Net input and the main net result mean before income tax. Optional prélèvement à la source is shown separately, using your personal rate. Actual withholding is based on taxable net, which can differ from this estimate.

Are these exact contribution rates?

No. These are broad approximations. Actual deductions depend on your employment and payslip details. Use your payslip for the exact amount and the official salary simulator on urssaf.fr for a calculation using your circumstances.

Are bonuses included?

No. Yearly equivalents assume twelve equal monthly payments. Include bonuses in the amount you enter if you want an annual average.
