Runs entirely in your browser
Averages the latest seven intervals, up to eight taps. Resets after a two-second pause. Space does not interrupt typing or other controls.
Tempo arithmetic
For a 500 ms interval, BPM = 60,000 / 500 = 120. The display uses the mean interval, not an average of reciprocals. Milliseconds per beat = 60,000 / BPM.
Tap interpretation
Tap consistently on the pulse you want to measure. Tapping twice per beat doubles the displayed tempo. For audio-file analysis, use BPM Detector; for a sounding beat, open the metronome.
How to use it
- Tap the pad or press Space in time with the beat.
- After two taps, read BPM and milliseconds per beat.
- Keep tapping for a rolling average, or pause two seconds to reset.

Frequently asked questions
How is the tempo averaged?
The latest eight taps define up to seven intervals. BPM is 60,000 divided by their mean duration in milliseconds.
Why does it reset?
A pause of two seconds starts a new sequence so a break is not counted as part of the tempo. The space shortcut is disabled while typing or using other controls.
